Name: Pamela Butcher
Playing for: England
Best result: Gold medals at the 2010 World Veterans Championships in singles 80 and 2016 in singles 85.
Pamela Butcher is what you can call an institution in the history of the European Veteran Championships. She is one of those who won gold medal at the very first edition of EVC in 1995 and she is still competing for medals.
In 1995, Pamela Butcher won women’s singles 60 and she’s coming to Helsingborg to defend her title in women’s wingles 85 from 2015 in Tampere.
In total, Pamela Butcher has won nine gold medals, four gold in singles and five in doubles at the European VC. In this case, Pamela Butcher is surpassed only by her double partner, Marianne Blasberg, for many years. They play in different age classes in singles and in doubles they play in the 80-year class, even though Pamela could play in the 85-year-old. They are reigning champions and are great favorites also this year.
Her nine gold in the EVC are outstripped by the two gold medals at the 2010 World Veterans Championships in women’s singles 80 and 2016 in women’s singles 85. The latter victory is her most overwhelmed when in an eventful and exciting final she defeated the hard-played Japanese Kaneko Kujirai after five long and very hard and exciting games. In addition, Pamela Butcher has won two gold in doubles at the world Veterans Championships.
Pamela has played more sparingly in the past few years and do not travel as much as before. She has just taken part in a series of smaller competitions near her home in southern England, but the European Championships are always attracting her.
